Andarine (S4)

Andarine (S4) is a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) developed for the treatment of muscle wasting conditions, osteoporosis, and other disorders requiring increased muscle mass and bone density. It is known for its potent anabolic effects while minimizing androgenic side effects compared to traditional anabolic steroids.

Medical Uses

Originally researched for conditions such as:

  • Muscle Wasting Diseases – Potential treatment for sarcopenia and cachexia.

  • Osteoporosis – Helps improve bone mineral density.

  • Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) – Investigated for its ability to reduce prostate size without affecting muscle growth.

Mechanism of Action

Andarine selectively binds to androgen receptors in muscle and bone tissue, stimulating anabolic activity while exhibiting minimal impact on other tissues such as the prostate. It enhances protein synthesis and increases nitrogen retention, leading to muscle growth and improved strength. Unlike traditional steroids, Andarine does not convert to estrogen, reducing the risk of estrogen-related side effects.

Side Effects

Potential side effects include:

  • Visual Disturbances – Temporary night vision impairment and a yellowish tint in vision.

  • Testosterone Suppression – Prolonged use may reduce natural testosterone levels.

  • Mild Liver Toxicity – Though considered lower risk than anabolic steroids, excessive use may impact liver function.

  • Other – Possible headaches, nausea, or increased aggression in some users.

Interactions

  • May interact with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and other SARMs, potentially exacerbating hormonal imbalances.

  • Caution should be taken when combined with liver-toxic compounds, as it may increase hepatic strain.

  • No direct interactions with common prescription drugs have been extensively studied, but users should consult a medical professional before use.
